After he saw her modeling portfolio, it was Malayalam director Lal Jose who gave Amala a golden opportunity to begin her acting career. In a supporting role in the 2009 film Neelathamara, the actress made her acting debut. Amala failed to bag any roles, much to her surprise and disappointment, despite the movie's success.
